Happy New Year's Eve

and we'll see you in 2011 xoxo

Happy New Year!

Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!

New Year's Eve outfit #2

So tomorrow night I'm going to be hitting up Susanne Bartsch's New Year's Eve party at the Delano Hotel in South Beach, Miami. I honestly thought I'd be spending NYE quietly with my girlfriend and our dog and brought nothing down here appropriate to wear! (of course I hit the stores today!) Anyways this Lis.B Jumper by designer Betina Holte is what I'd wear if I owned it. It's sleek and sexy but super comfortable which means dancefloor friendly! And I think Katy looks amazing in it! This is from our shoot at EVA NY one of my favorite boutiques in New York. It's curated by genius Stephanie Pappas and is really all about upcoming and edgy designers.

A Personal Message and Inspiration for 2011

Have you ever felt like you belonged on the "island of misfit toys"? Well, I have... I was at dinner last night with two great friends, and they were telling me about the high-school reunion that I recently missed. The truth is, I actually went to one school from 1st-9th, another for 10th and 11th, and we moved to a different city for my Senior year, thus a third school. So, which school class reunion am I supposed to attend? If you have really read this far, I promise there is a point to my story.
For a brief moment at dinner last night, I did feel sorry for myself, feeling like I did not belong to one certain group. Then, I snapped out of it. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for all of my friends and experiences I have encountered along the way. But, I am a firm believer of living in the present. I am 43 years old, and last year I would have told you that 2009 was the best year of my life. However, now that we have come to the end of 2010, I would say that this year has been even better.
So to all of you ~ If you are not doing what you love, change your ways.
If there is a hobby you want to try ~ try it!
Dream...
Imagine...
Believe in Yourself
Cherish your family and friends
Live, Laugh, and most certainly Love

Here is to being grateful for our past, and looking ahead to 2011!
I hope you will join me here each and every day on Bright Bold and Beautiful.

My Favorite Design Blog Posts of 2010

It’s hard to believe 2010 is coming to an end soon. Seems like just yesterday I wrote a post about my favorite blog posts of 2009. With more and more beautiful design blogs, it was very difficult to narrow down my favorites for 2010, but here goes {in no particular order}…

2010 fav post holding court
Holding Court’s How to Find Inspiration Shopping.  The design blogging community continues to morn the loss of Marija who was killed in a car accident returning from an antiquing trip to Atlanta on July 10, 2010. My heart goes out to her family and friends this holiday season.

thanksgiving table pure style home
Pure Style Home’s Our Thanksgiving Table. This fun post by Lauren represents her wonderful whimsical, eclectic style to a T.

custom drum pendant how to
Isabella & Max Rooms’ Kitchen Island Pendant Project. In this post, the multi-talented Janell shows us how to make a custom drum shade for a pendant fixture. Aren’t this beautiful?

Candida Hofer photography in town and country
Cote de Texas’ The Hottest Photographer Going. Joni’s posts are always informative and beautiful. This is no exception. She walks through who Candida Hofer {the hottest photographer} and why she has attracted the attention of so many of the finest interior designers and art collectors. {image above from Town & Country via Cote de Texas}

tufted blue sofa house beautiful
Emily A. Clark’s Where to Start. This is a great article where Emily gives her design advice on where to start first when decorating your home. {image from House Beautiful via Emily A. Clark}

laundry room fresh design white
Centsational Girl’s Laundry Room Project Breakdown. Well, it was hard to pick just one post of Kate’s. She has some many great ones this year. However, her laundry room face-lift is a favorite of mine.

colorful glass ornament holiday wreath
Bright.Bazaar’s Rue Magazine: My Holiday Column. Will’s column for Rue Magazine is always a treat. I especially like his holiday where he captured three different Christmas looks in the same room … all in one day!

parsons desk home office
6th Street Design School’s Office Details. Kirsten’s pretty and functional home office was designed with items from all different sources – many at deep discounts. Love that!

mail station organization entry
A Brooklyn Limestone in Progress’ Mail Call! DIY Mail Center. Stephani has tons of inspirational DIY projects on her blog, but the organizer side of me loved this incoming mail sorting center she made using picture frames and radiator grill. Brilliant!

black kitchen sink
Things That Inspire's Kitchen Sinks and Sink Tips from Readers. Holly is in the midst of building her dream home in Atlanta. She blogs about all the big and little decisions that she is making throughout the process. In these posts she walks through images of kitchen sinks and highlights readers’ advice regarding a variety of sink designs. Great ones to bookmark!

little girls blue room fun
Velvet & Linen’s Leila’s Room. Brooke’s daughter, Leila’s new “big” girl room is eclectic, colorful and inviting. Starting with an floral rug from Anthropologie, Brooke & Leila created a beautiful bedroom retreat.

There are so many other posts I enjoyed reading in 2010. The lovely blogs listed under "buzzing blogs" are my daily reads. Please check them out when you have the time!

Habitually Chic Make Up

I'm very lucky that Estee Lauder sends me products to review because I often fall in love with crazy colors that I would never have tried on my own. I've been getting compliments on their red lipstick so I thought I would share it and a few of my other favorites with you.  I think New Year's Eve is the perfect time to try something new!
  • Estee Lauder Extravagant Berry Long Lasting Lipstick - Great matte color by itself but even better layer with a lip gloss.  Just found out that it's Limited Edition so get it while you can!
  • Estee Lauder Extravagant Plum Pure Color Lip Gloss - Also fabulous by itself but I love it layered over the Extravagant Berry Lipstick.  You might want to blot some off before you kiss someone at midnight!
  • Nars Mata Hari Blush - Looks a little scary bright pink in the compact but actually very natural once it's been applied with a fluffy brush.  Makes me look alive in the winter when I'm pale as a ghost!
  • Clé de Peu Concealer - Worth every penny! Stays creamy and covers without looking like you're wearing concealer.  You'll need this for New Year's Day!
  • La Mer The Treatment Fluid Foundation - Also worth every penny!  It gives light coverage with SPF 15 that looks natural and feels fabulous!
  • Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Custom Volumn Mascara - I love Lancôme mascara and always wear waterproof since it doesn't smudge.  If you wear the red lipstick, it's best to go lighter on the eyes but don't skimp on the mascara.
  • Smythson Wash Bag - There is nothing I love more than pulling out this pretty plum colored make up bag from Smythson.  I don't think they make this exact bag any longer but they do have a fun magenta color still available. Happy New Year!

Closing Out 2010: Eye Candy & Room Envy

I was happy to find this home to close out 2010 as there's a great mix of classic pieces with some antiques and a bit of fresh trends thrown into the mix. I also love this home because I find it's inspirational as it represents an attainable look; either with furniture you might already own or with the addition of a few Craigslist/flea market pieces. Love the leopard print rug and the gilt mirror over the modern fireplace surround. Deer appear as prints on the wall and as a focal piece on the mantel.
A smartly laid out kitchen with a terrific view into the adjoining sitting room.
Another view of this room. Love the parsons style bench as a side table.
What a difference adding a throw makes to the slipcovered ottoman.
A nice mix of pieces in this first floor library. I also spy two more deer as bookends. Can't tell if there are deer in the print above the fireplace.
A gallery hall runs the length of the home - makes me wonder why more homes aren't designed with this feature.
A bit of velvet goes a long way in the master bedroom.
Here the upholstered bench has interesting curves and the pumpkin colored shades add a nice contrast. All images from Carriage House Properties here.

In my next post I'll be celebrating the 3rd anniversary of this blog (still find that hard to believe) and will have a giveaway too. Best wishes for a very Happy New Year!!
